Whether you are an experienced rider or total beginner, Rockin' R Trail Rides has scenic rides suitable for the entire family.
See Crazy Horse Memorial right from the stable, then venture out into the ponderosa pines and rock outcroppings of the historic mica mining area of the Buckhorn Range of the Black Hills National Forest.
Our rides are single file, guided and walking to allow you to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills.
Reservations are recommended; walk-ins welcome based on availability.
Child rate is for ages 6-12.
All Rates are plus 6% tax.
Minimum age for trail rides is 6 years old - Younger kids can try on our hats and chaps for a hand-led "pony" ride in the corral.
"Maximum weight is strictly enforced at 230 lbs and must be height/weight proportionate!!
Example - 6'2" and 230 lbs = Yes; 5'6" and 230 lbs = No. Anyone close to 200 lb will be asked to step on the scale to verify weight and ensure proper horse is available. Final decisions are at guide's discretion based on the horses available. (Please note: Maximum weight on the Half Day and 2 hour ride is 220 lbs height/weight proportionate due to more difficult terrain.)"

Which Ride is Right For Your Horseback Adventure?
Scenic Loop
1 Hour

Easy trail with gradual hills winding through the trees and expansive views of the Buckhorn Range. Great for younger kids and beginners, yet scenic and enjoyable for all skill levels
Buckhorn Loop
1.5 Hour
$70 Adult / $65 Child
This trail branches off the scenic one hour ride crossing the Michelson Trail to access the foot hills of the Buckhorn Range. Ride into the aspens and birch; climb up through the rocks past a small mica mining area. Great ride to do a bit more climbing, still easy enough for all ages and skill levels.
Aspen Tunnel
2 Hour
$90 Adult / $85 Child
Get even further off the beaten track by continuing along the foothills of the Buckhorns. Experience steeper climbs with great views; ride through thick aspen groves and next to granite outcroppings! More moderate in difficulty, yet still appropriate for novices in good physical condition.
Crazy Horse Half Day
3.5 Hours
$140 Adult / $130 Child
For the more adventurous - continue even further into the back country with more climbing along granite walls/outcroppings favored by rock climbers! Dismount at midway point to stretch your legs and climb a small hill for another view of Crazy Horse Memorial. After a brief rest, mount up and enjoy a more leisurely trail back along the old mike mine track.
